Nous proposons une théorie métaphysique de la comptabilité qui cheminerait vers la possibilité de son dépassement technique en proposant une lecture seconde de toute comptabilité d’entreprise : une lecture thymotique, du grec thymos, terme qui renvoie à un couple inséparable, à une tension permanente entre « colère » et « fierté ». Nous verrons en quoi Platon voyait le thymos comme l’une des trois composantes de l’âme. Entre un bénéfice inattendu et une perte imprévisible, entre l’insatisfaction d’une coupure budgétaire et le ravissement d’un dividende extraordinaire, entre un état de comptes de revenus astronomiques et une collection d’anachronismes qui attestent d’un défaut complet de gouvernance dans la reddition de compte, mais que révèle, ou confirme, une comptabilité d’entreprise, il y aura assurément un sentiment, une émotion ou, à tout le moins, une réaction thymotique.
