(Re)Constructing Democracy without Women: Gender and Politics in Postcommunist Romania
Type de matériel :
95
The democratic (re)construction of the Romanian political landscape after the fall of communism was marked by a significant underrepresentation of women in political institutions. This article investigates the phenomenon of the women’s “fading presence” on the political scene of postcommunist Romania from two research angles. First, it connects the subject with the parameters governing the (re)configuration of the postcommunist political elites. Secondly, it explores it through the lens of the (re)construction of gender roles and representations, with a focus particularly on the inaudible and allegedly illegitimate character of demands for equality in post-1989 Romania.
