For the past four years, the Middle East has been at the center of the great transformation of international relations generated by the September 11, 2001, terrorist acts. An “American moment” has been reaching its apex in the region, with a new American foreign policy, far more active and aggressive than previously, striving to transform it, to establish a kind of American frontier, imposing the American way of thinking and problem-solving––as shown in the case of Iraq as well as Palestine. To transform the region through democratization is the alleged solution for all problems––a new political line that the Bush administration is pursuing steadfastly.
