Two associations, with quite different political sympathies, are founded during the thirties with papers to express their purposes: the Association of the Jewish Volunteers (ACVJ) publishes The Jewish Volunteer (1931-1935), and the Patriotic Union of the French Israelites (UPFI) a Bulletin (1935-1938). Both these papers give evidence of the contradictions existing in the French society, and the torments which already befall the Jewish community previous to the Second World war.
