This text describes the intellectual itinerary of Eliseo Verón in France, from 1970 to 1995. It was in fact preceded by a two-year period working in C. Lévi-Strauss’s laboratory, followed by some time spent at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales in the 1970s. Verón then moved to the private sector, doing consultancy work in the field of communication but always using his findings to nourish important theoretical works. He regularly taught at various universities, which allowed his work to be disseminated, before finally obtaining a position at Paris VIII University. The main stages of this unusual itinerary are analyzed here, along with its causes and consequences.
