The book by P. Sauzeau on Argos mythology is presented as a kind of archaeology, in the etymological sense of the word. It shows the construction of the Argos landscape as good for men because the frame of relationships among gods (mainly Hera and Poseidon) makes it possible. The methodological issues are also commented, for instance the common usage of structural and genetic perspectives, or the consideration of the Indo-European tradition, and a remarkable use of etymologies. Finally, the book is placed in a larger frame of research on religion and mythology that could be called “comparative topology”.
