The Problem with Upper Floors in the Roman domus of Tunisia

Par : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2009. Sujet(s) : Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : This article aims to help resolve the question of the upper floor in the houses of the ruling classes of Roman Tunisia, an issue that has remained open until now. The inventory of stairways enables us to conclude that houses with upper floors are rare. They are concentrated in cities, such as Bulla Regia, where urban expansion has not resulted in peripheral areas. Careful examination of the planimetric implantation of stairs and of some African literary sources allows to assume there were rented spaces located upstairs.
