This article is based on the experience of a psychotherapist specialised in affording care to parents and their children and focuses on how an early trauma can be brought out into the open through the play of psychodrama. Looking at the case of Paul, who witnessed scenes of conjugal violence from a very early age, the long haul work of psychotherapy, that largely involved play, paved the way for a representation of the traumatisms that broke into the psyche in the form of unsymbolised fragments. This led on to a major process of transformation in the child’s psychic functioning.
