For French local authorities in 2024, environmental law was partly a matter of budgetary and financial regulation. The Finance Act of that year mandated that local authorities or their associations adopt a “green budget,” strengthened support for ecosystems in rural communities, and reformed water agency fees to make the management of this essential resource more sustainable. Similarly, the legislature increased state financial support for the energy renovation of schools and the reuse of vehicles to promote sustainable mobility.
