Alfred Hitchcock’s religious upbringing shaped his cinematic works. Not that he dealt directly with the question of the Catholic faith or wanted to proselytize, but he discovered the many faces of fear outside the protective family bubble, thanks to his education in several Jesuit institutions. The filmmaker never managed to shake these childhood fears—at best, he endeavored to exorcise them through his films.
