Combining palliative care and maternity care represents an unsettling paradox that upsets the order of generations as it is conceived in our society. This article explores the experience of a palliative care psychologist working in a maternity unit with people experiencing perinatal loss. Caught in an ambivalence between anguish and action, an external psychologist, called upon to deal with the question of death at the beginning of life, was able to conduct a unique study on this painful subject, at both a clinical and institutional level.
