Photography as burial

Artists open the doors of the morgue by photographing dead bodies. They are not just capturing one final picture of the deceased, they are actually taking care of the dead body, that is, the person who is no longer in this body. Photography and the morgue, on the one hand, preserve the image of the person who has died in order to keep a record of what happened, of the past, of who they were. Photography and burial, on the other hand, embody the traces of the dead person’s story and the story of their death.
