According to René Worms, political economy is a field of the social sciences, and it provides the rules on goodness, justice, and usefulness. Science of wealth and art, political economy leads to sociology, with which it shares its primary object of investigation, the division of labor based on solidary co-operation between social actors. Influenced by his father Émile Worms, a member of the French liberal economists, René Worms evolved towards a social political economy close to Charles Gide. This double affiliation was reflected in the network René Worms mobilized when he launched his Institut international de sociologie.
