The story of the Indian bar illustrates the social factors determining the close intertwining of law and politics “? as well as its ups and downs. Thus, the mobilisation of the bar against the state of emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi did not suffice to restore her political credit, earned during the struggle for independence and lost in her opposition to agrarian reforms.
