The body, adolescence, and psychosis

Par : Contributeur(s) : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2014. Sujet(s) : Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : In this article, we describe certain aspects of the clinical development of a seventeen-year-old adolescent affected by a psychotic crisis, who received psychoanalytic treatment (four sessions per week). In the context of arrested development during adolescence, a psychotic explosion can provide an opportunity to revive the maturation process. Bion’s theory of catastrophic change (the theory in which the containing/contained relation takes an explosive form), and Ferrari’s and Matte Bianco’s hypothesis regarding body-mind relation, are used here to reflect upon the adolescent’s psychosis. The authors underline the role of the body and bodily change negation, crucial in the genesis of psychotic conflict during adolescence. They show how the analytical relation can offer determining dreaming conditions to promote the recognition of the body, of bodily sensations and affects as a precondition for an autonomous mental system to be activated.
