“The future is like everything else: it’s not what it used to be.” Some thoughts about the present crisis

Par : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2021. Sujet(s) : Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : This article proposes a study of the etymology of the concept of “crisis,” with its origins in Hippocratic medicine. On this basis, the article shows the semantic and analytical process that led to the transposition of this concept, from the end of the eighteenth century, to other fields, particularly political economy, by annexing an idea of pathology. This path makes it possible to present at once the main lines of the debate on the nature of economic crises, the theories of the cycle, and the role of uncertainty. JEL codes: B12, B22, E12, E30
