Over the last few years, both the growth and the impact of microfinance have often been overestimated. Today, many analysts try to provide a more balanced overview, stressing what has been learned and what remains to be done. This paper contributes to this objective by analyzing four areas: lessons learned, debates, future developments, and evaluation.
