This article deals with the controversy over soil exhaustion resulting from the expansion of groundnut farming in post-war Senegal, its development from the criticism of groundnut farming as monoculture to its end point around a programme set up to modernize agriculture. The study of two agronomic expertise missions testifies to this shift.
