A clinical and projective research about alcoology psychotherapy

The interest in psychic change and the particularity of working in addictology cultivated the authors’ desire to conduct a research work. Thirteen patients suffering from an alcohol use disorder and benefiting from psychotherapy were examined at the beginning of the treatment and one year later at an advanced stage. The examination included both a semi-directed interview and a Rorschach test. Eleven out of thirteen patients showed clinical progress. The hypothesis was that clinical improvement would be accompanied by a psychic reshuffle visible in the Rorschach. This revision is studied through the anxiety and psychic representation indexes. The possible impact of social desirability is also studied. A nomothetic study of the results points out a decrease in anxiety, while an idiographic study illustrated by three cases shows a change in representations. This evolution occurs in a more expressive or more adaptive sense. Beyond this survey, the experience of being a clinical researcher improved the authors’ practice. Thus, they will continue their research on the representations of alcohol addiction with patients who are treated in a CSPAC (Care, Support and Prevention in Addictology Centre).
