SUB-EDITORS OF LIBERATION. SPECIALIZED NEWSPAPER JOURNALISTS "Sedentary journalists", the sub-editors of Lib?ration, are important actors in the production of the newspaper's news. In situ observation of their work provides further insight into the "mediation" phase preceding the elaboration of an edition. At Lib?ration in particular, it reveals that the final content of the newspaper is the result of a multitude of interactions, of a "negotiated creativity" between those concerned. This mode of functioning sometimes prompts sub-editors to substitute themselves for editors-in-chief. This observation identifies the collective dimension of the actors' work as an essential dimension in the mediation phase of the newspaper.
