Through an experiment, this article presents the role that design sciences can play in overcoming disabilities associated with mental disorders, namely obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). We show the significant positive impact that a simple technological device co-developed by a multidisciplinary team of sociologists, psychologists, occupational therapists, engineers, psychiatrists, designers, and the person presenting the disorder can have on her checking rituals and their consequences in everyday life. Strongly linked to the social sciences, design sciences have an important role to play in the emerging logic of care in psychiatry, going beyond the patient/therapist face-to-face encounter in the medical setting.
