When the first signs of deindustrialization occurred in the 1970s on these two territories, the fate of female workers did not catch the attention of politicians. And yet, the inequality between men and women’s wages is still on and is strengthened in this unique context. They are issues with regressive speeches and traditional postures; the legitimacy of women’s work is even questioned. We had to wait until the next decade to develop, with those women, a policy of support in their quest of a reintegration or of a career change. Although they are weakened by a sudden dismissal, these female workers react to what they consider to be an injustice. Each of the closures that have happened came with long and radical conflicts in territories where the tradition of statement and the memory of struggles are still significant.
