RésuméÉclairé par la théorie psychanalytique, cet article analyse le phénomène des communautés virtuelles ( Seconde Life et Cryopolis) en reconnaissant dans leur fonctionnement la prépondérance de motifs impersonnels et collectifs : complexes ou imagines paternelles, maternelles ou fraternelles organisant les représentations et déterminant les comportements.Au sein de ces communautés virtuelles, nous montrerons, sur la base d’entretiens auprès de membres et d’administrateurs de ces sites, que la place accordée à l’autorité, à la justice, à la conception de la réalité ou encore à la généalogie indique l’effritement du complexe paternel (ou métaphore paternelle dans la théorie lacanienne) au profit du complexe fraternel. Nous proposons enfin « l’hydre numérique » comme métaphore de ces « communautés de frères branchés ».

The community of connected brethrenThe article analyzes the phenomenon of virtual communities ( Second Life and Cryopolis) in light of psychoanalytic theory, recognizing in their functioning a preponderance of impersonal and group motifs: paternal, maternal or fraternal complexes or imagines that organize representations and determine behaviors.Using interviews with members and administrators of these sites, we will show that, within these virtual communities, the place given to authority, to justice, to the conception of reality or to genealogy suggests the crumbling of the paternal complex (or paternal metaphor in Lacanian theory) in favor of the fraternal complex. Finally, we will offer the « digital hydra » as a metaphor for these « communities of connected brethren ».
