Des enfants très jeunes, en Afrique de l’Ouest le plus souvent ou issus de l’immigration africaine, se sont vu qualifier d’« enfants-ancêtres », suite à divers symptômes de retraits psychiques. Il est important de situer d’un point de vue anthropologique les conditions d’apparition puis le sens actuel d’une telle nomination. Ce texte propose une exploration des liens possibles entre la situation d’« enfant » et la nomination d’« ancêtre », aujourd’hui que les violences dans l’histoire sociale et politique ont gravement détruit les ordres de filiations et des appartenances culturelles.

Very young children, most often in West Africa or from African immigration, have been qualified as “child-ancestors”, following various symptoms of psychic withdrawal. It is important to situate from an anthropological point of view the conditions of appearance and the current meaning of such a nomination. This text proposes an exploration of the possible links between the situation of “child” and the nomination of “ancestor”, today where the violence in social and political history has seriously destroyed the orders of filiations and cultural belonging.
