Résumé Dans sa correspondance avec le Pasteur Pfister, à propos d’un jeune américain, A.B., Freud s’interroge sur le diagnostic et s’étonne du fait que ce patient semble passer de la névrose à la psychose. Ce questionnement soulève des questions quant à l’approche structurale, névrose, psychose, perversion, soutenue par Lacan. En reprenant le cas en détail, nous tentons de reconstruire la structure d’A.B. Il apparaît tout d’abord important de resituer le cas dans le contexte de la théorie freudienne et de ses évolutions. Ensuite, le diagnostic de schizophrénie peut être mis en question. Enfin, A.B. semble bien être le cas du Gingerbreadman évoqué par Freud dans « Inhibition, symptôme, angoisse » (1926), cas de phobie infantile, ce qui signifie qu’il y a eu rencontre de la castration maternelle. Un trait de perversion, sous la forme d’une masturbation fétichiste, se révèle par ailleurs déterminant, dans le sens de cette reconnaissance au moins partielle de la castration. Sans que nous puissions cependant connaître le diagnostic de façon certaine, du fait de l’incomplétude des éléments livrés, nous montrons que Freud, loin d’être éloigné d’une approche structurale, essaie justement, dans ses tâtonnements, de poser un diagnostic en termes de structure.

In its correspondence with Pasteur Pfister, in connection with young American, A.B., Freud wonders about the diagnosis and is astonished owing to the fact that this patient seems to pass from the neurosis to the psychosis. This questioning raises questions as for the structural approach, neurosis, psychosis, perversion, supported by Lacan. By taking again the case in detail, we try to rebuild the structure of A.B. It first of all appears important to put in perspective the case in the context of the freudian theory and its evolutions. Then, the diagnosis of schizophrenia can be questioned. Lastly, A.B. seems well to be the case of Gingerbreadman evoked by Freud in « Inhibition, symptom, distresses » (1926), infantile case of phobia, which means that there was meets maternal castration. A feature of perversion, in the form of a fetishistic masturbation, appears determining in addition, in the direction of this recognition at least partial of castration. Without we being able however to know the diagnosis in an unquestionable way, because of miss of the delivered elements, we show that Freud, far from being distant from a structural approach, precisely tests, in its gropings, to pose a diagnosis in terms of structure.
