The suicidal crisis is one of the emblematic pathologies of adolescence. Its frequency, which is constantly increasing, raises various questions: What is the role of external factors such as society, family, or school? Above all, what meaning should be given to this “scandal turned enigma,” this dramatic act whereby adolescents attempt to sever ties with those around them, a reflection of the difficulties they experience in reconfiguring their ties with internal objects? The medical response to suicidal crises must address the urgency of the situation while also being cautious and flexible. The question of separation in adolescence intersects with that of self-directed aggression and the symbolic destruction of internalized objects. The care provided goes beyond addressing the immediate danger of the suicidal act and explores the subject's attempt to transform themself and their environment.
