The children of schizophrenic mothers commonly suffer from stigmatisation, isolation and emotional deprivation. Ranging over discussions pursued on Internet forums, epidemiological studies and presentations of scientific concepts (for example the notion of hypermaturation), the article considers a number of possible outcomes facing such children and addresses a question that since Winnicott has been a constant concern for professionals working in child psychiatry: namely, what are the psychological or psychiatric risks the children of psychotic parents run?
