A Brief History of the Barometer
Type de matériel :
44
Following the detailed syntheses written by Jean-André de Luc and Louis Cotte in the third quarter of the eighteenth century, I describe here the techniques developed to improve on the Torricelli Tube and the uses which were made of the barometer. I then discuss what was involved in weather forecasting and give a succinct presentation of hypotheses elicited to explain the variations in the height of mercury.
