Aussi bien dans l’alchimie que dans la clinique jungienne on voit que nos partenaires contrasexuels anima / animus troublent nos relations à l’autre et au monde tant qu’ils ne sont pas différenciés. Passions amoureuses, compulsions, échecs affectifs et somatisations servent souvent de seuils initiatiques pour amener animus/anima à s’intérioriser selon un processus de « raffinement » de leur énergie jusqu’à ce qu’ils se transforment en compagnons intérieurs aimants et que notre vie relationnelle s’apaise en proportion.

In both alchemy and Jungian practice, we see the anima/animus, our contrasexual partners, in an undifferentiated state, trouble our relations with the other and the world. Amorous passions, compulsions, emotional setbacks, and psychosomatic illnesses often serve as gateways on the quest for the wisdom which will interiorize the animus/anima according to a process whereby their energy is distilled until they become loving inner companions, and our relations with the people we love become more peaceful and fulfilling.
