RésuméÀ l’instar des Trois essais sur la sexualité infantile, Le tour d’écrou de Henry James, œuvre contemporaine du brûlot freudien, a déclenché un scandale tant dans l’opinion que chez les « experts » en psychologie et psychiatrie. On y a vu une offense subversive et perverse à l’endroit de la supposée innocence enfantine. C’est en cela que l’œuvre de James est paradigmatique d’une certaine position interprétative du sexuel infantile qui oscille entre la normativité qui abrase le fantasme dans le sexuel et la dénonciation de la folie de l’autre. Mais elle peut ouvrir aussi, si l’approche que l’on en a suit l’enseignement freudien de l’appréhension de l’écart et de l’ambiguïté, à une autre lecture, en décalage, celle du fantasme-fantôme qui accueille la transgressivité et l’indétermination du sexuel infantile, son indiscernabilité fantasmatique, sa trans-sexualité, en somme.

Just like the Three Essays on infantile sexuality, The Turn of the Screw by Henry James, a work contemporary with the Freudian fire-brand, has provoked a scandal among the public opinion as well as among the « experts » in psychology and psychiatry. It was considered a subversive and perverse offence against the proverbial infantile innocence. That is why James’s novella is paradigmatic of a certain interpretative position concerning infantile sexuality which wavers between a normalcy which abrades sexual fantasy and the denunciation of madness within the other party. But it may also open, if the chosen approach follows along the lines of Freudian theory about the apprehending of discrepancy and ambiguity, on a new understanding, a differing one, that of the fantasy-phantom which may welcome the transgressivity and indeterminacy of infantile sexuality, its fantasmatical indiscernability, in short, its trans-sexuality.
