À partir de l’analyse d’un cas clinique, à savoir un patient borderline arborant de nombreux tatouages auto-réalisés, nous aborderons trois caractéristiques principales de l’existence borderline. Il s’agit de l’ instantanéité, de l’ ubiquité, et de la sensation d’un corps-en-disparition. À la lumière de cette compréhension originale du trouble, la question de la pratique du tatouage chez les borderline, ainsi que le rapport très particulier qu’ils entretiennent avec leur corps et avec autrui, seront évoqués. Nous mettrons ainsi en évidence la dialectique qui s’inscrit entre l’ objectification du corps, en tant qu’objet susceptible d’être manipulé et modifié, et l’ objectivation de celui-ci, en tant qu’objet doué du pouvoir spécial et déterminant d’être animé d’une subjectivité. Nous terminerons en soulignant à quel point la personnalité borderline trouve sa place et est en quelque sorte en phase avec l’évolution postmoderne de notre société actuelle.

Based on the analysis of a clinical case, namely a borderline patient displaying several self-realised tattoos, we’ll broach three principal characteristics of borderline existence. They are instantaneity, ubiquity and a sense of disappearing-body. Given this original understanding of the trouble, the issue of tattoo practice in borderline people, as well as the very particular relationship they maintain with their own body and other people, will be discussed. We’ll also highlight the dialectics between the objectification of the body, as an object which is likely to be manipulated and modified, and the objectivation of the body, as an object gifted with the special and determining power of being animated by a subjectivity. We’ll end by emphasising how the borderline personality find its place and is, in a way, in tune with the postmodern evolution of our current society.
