Regression and Confusion in a Couple Suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease
Type de matériel :
63
We analyze the regression in a couple stricken by Alzheimer’s disease from the point of view of the anxiety and confusion of the patient or their spouse/caregiver. This approach turns our attention to the inner and outer world of the couple, and emphasizes the potential space described by Winnicott in the mother-baby symbiosis; this space tolerates the indetermination between self and no-self within the couple and between the couple and the outer world, including family. We distinguish a confusion that allows communication and a confusion that leads to an autistic withdrawal in the couple, as well as an individual withdrawal within the boundaries of the self.
