Through the life stories of five participants, we were able to understand, during a meeting, some of the factors at work behind their choice. We discovered that the choice of a transgender man’s first name can reveal a desire to be in line with his filiation, while at the same time revealing a need to break away from the gender of his former name. Therefore, we believe that the choice of a first name allows some transgender men to evolve in their identity construction while perpetuating a desire for historicization.
