How the Child Sees Cremation and Infantile Thanatological Theories

Par : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2013. Sujet(s) : Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : Incineration is increasingly being adopted for funerals in France. However, children in mourning often fail to have this rite explained to them, almost as if it was more difficult to address than burial. Indeed, there has been no scientific article dedicated to the question of how the child sees incineration. The article is based on the author’s clinical experience with bereft children and more particularly the follow-up of 36 children of under ten years of age having experienced the cremation of a close relative. After an overview of cremation’s place in French culture, it is seen how children see cremation according to their age. Finally, the issue of how to provide psychological care for these children and support for their close relations is addressed.
