By retracing the Doinel saga and offering it back to us in the form of a cinematic coming-of-age story, the authors propose to read it as a path of subjectivation, with its stumbling blocks and its impossibilities. The authors question in particular some aspects of this journey: the response of adults to the questions of teenage Antoine, his relationship with parents and their failing functions, and the intrapsychic and intersubjective vicissitudes of his life in a couple. Far from psychoanalyzing the protagonist or the director, the authors read the entire saga by interweaving it with the autobiographical data highlighted by Truffaut as a source of inspiration.
