Communication and multiple disabilities

In the context of the support provided to a user by sessad, involving the intervention of an occupational therapist and a psychologist, we offered Cylia – an adolescent with multiple disabilities- – working sessions on development and communication over a five- year period. Cylia communicates but does not use codes: neither codes established by her, nor conventional ones. This “one-on-one” situation left us, as professionals, in an often uncertain position and led us to call into question the definition of work that involves the development of communication with members of the public suffering from multiple disabilities.
