Musical practice and the destiny of fantasy

Music, as in the practice of a musical instrument, is often forgotten in the rare psychoanalytic texts devoted to music, concerned more with the work or its appraisal. The present text endeavours an approach to the unconscious dimension of the musical instrument from two aspects: on the one hand the role of the unconscious fantasy (the formula “a musician is beaten” will be developed from the translation of the verb Schlagen used by Freud) and on the other, the possibility of doing without the Other through the practice of music. Two texts by R. Barthes ( Musica practica and Rasch) indeed suggest that the experience of beats without agent is possible in musical praxis.
