By agreeing to recount his three meetings with Jacques Lacan, Jean-Pierre Petit does much more than supplement a paragraph that has remained in the shadows of one-hundred-year history of psychoanalysis in France. He teaches us that a topological object, the Boy’s surface, held the attention of Lacan to such an extent that its logical implication is to recast Lacan’s earlier topologies, which he never undertook during his lifetime. Existence of an unperceived singularity of the cross-cap, demonstration proving the existence of such a singularity, detailed description of the Boy’s surface and the transformations produced by the application of a cut on such an object are the three points he exposed to Lacan and which he agreed to share with us accompanied by the topological writings he carefully wrote out by hand.
