W ritings about (and by) the “Wolf Man” marked his entire life, from Freud’s analysis of his infantile neurosis, and Ruth Mack Brunswick’s of his adult psychosis to his own memoirs, and Muriel Gardiner’s account of the second part of his life. His fundamental fantasy, as it appears in the dream of wolves, structures the path of his life and is revealed by it. Through this fantasy, his primary feminine homosexuality is revealed, which is rooted in the pre-Oedipal maternal bond, and is the source of Serguei Pankejeff’s paranoid structure.
