The Algerian bombing in the spring of?1958 of the Tunisian village Sakiet led to a serious French-Tunisian crisis and an attempt by Anglo-American diplomats to intervene. According to archives recently declassified, the action consisted only of a military operation, ordered by the French High Command and authorized by the French Government, against an FLN base on the Algerian-Tunisian frontier. Convoys of arms and fellagha were being sent from this base to the maquis in Kabylie and eastern Algeria.
