The elaboration of the Corsican language on the radio and public opinion: Corsican perspectives on linguistic purism This article analyzes the way a Corsican audience evaluates the quality of the language used in the news programs produced in Corsican on RCFM, the regional radio station. By creating a '˜pure' linguistic space reserved for Corsican, these programs participate in the sociolinguistic elaboration of a minority status language. Results show that radio audiences are ambivalent about the fact that the language heard over the radio depends heavily on French vocabulary and syntax but that they feel just as uncertain about using the neologisms that could conceivably sidestep such dependency.
