Nefopam (Acupan®) is a centrally acting non-opioid analgesic used for the treatment of moderate to severe pain. Similar to a step one analgesic, according to the WHO pain ladder classification, it is a first- or second-line drug, depending on the intensity of the pain. However, due to a significant risk of drug dependence, it should not be used in the context of chronic pain. How can nefopam be used in primary care and under which conditions?
