Both in countries of the North and the South, a compromise between a neoliberal anti-statist logic and the interests of non-governmental organizations has marked the construction of civil societies. This was particularly achieved through social business supported by big companies. By mobilizing the Polanyian concept of the principle of economic integration, this analysis aims to understand the limits of this new model of philanthropy and what differentiates it from the solidarity economy.
