In this article, the CFA franc is again questioned. The monetary system of the zone, which comprises fifteen African countries, dates back to the end of the Second World War, and even survived the independences. The case made against it is partially justified, since the CFA franc primarily benefits only the dominant and wealthy classes. But reform is on the agenda, and it must concern not only the symbols that crystallize criticisms of the currency, but, above all, the mechanisms that must allow for better financing of local economies and also contribute to reducing inequalities and poverty.
