Power and domination in development policies: Evidence from Latin America

Par : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2019. Sujet(s) : Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : Understanding the reasons that led Latin American countries to implement “Washington Consensus” policies and then try to free themselves from them requires a thorough analysis of the concept of power. Thus, using the work of John Kenneth Galbraith, Kenneth Boulding, and Steven Lukes, we offer a typology of power relations emphasizing the notion of domination. Thus, we show that the ambition to build a neoclassical economy apparently free of power relations leads to results that poorly conceal the desire to dominate of the prescribers of such economic policies.
