Somatic Conversion in Adolescence: A Neurotic Symptom? The Contribution of Projective Tests
Type de matériel :
29
Through the analysis of projective tests from a population of patients between 10 and 16 years of age, encountered in pediatric neurology wards and presenting symptoms of somatic conversion, we were able to elucidate certain particularities of their psychic functioning modes. Above and beyond the strong prevalence of a neurotic-type problem configuration in these subjects (16 out of the 18 patients encountered), we often noted the strong repercussions of castration anxiety and the richness of their internal world. We also noted the frequency of certain defense mechanisms such as the defensive use or erotisation, the suppression of particular fantasy scenarios by their externalization and the recourse to auto-erotic withdrawal so as to regulate the drive flows generated by relational cathexis.
