Food sovereignty as anti-colonial and anticapitalist mobilization: An enquiry into the Navajo community during the Covid-19 pandemic

The Navajo Nation crystallizes the problems and solutions of the southwest of the country: access to water, food, lack of jobs, climate crisis and governance. Based on the practices and discourses of farmers, I question the different forms of violence they face and in which they live. Covid-19 highlighted their work as educators. Between negotiations and tensions with NGOs, tribal and federal authorities, Navajo farmers must combine an ideal of autonomy in interdependency with the expectations of the Navajo population and the economic reality. This article offers new perspectives to examine environmental and food struggles during the covid-19 pandemic.
