Fragility and Reversibility of Migratory Privilege. The Case of Algerian and Moroccan Upper-class Women Living in France
Type de matériel :
73
Based on a contextualized case study, this article questions the heuristic power of the notion of migratory privilege. To this end, it compares the conditions under which two elite women from former colonized countries build up and maintain a migratory advantage. Through an analysis that considers individual characteristics, the structure of opportunities and constraints, and networks of relationships in a diachronic perspective, the article highlights the fragility and reversibility of migratory privilege. It encourages us to think of the concept of migratory privilege as both ideal and material, in a relational way and over time, in order to reintegrate the analysis of migration into a sociology of social stratification that pays attention to social relations of class, gender, and race.
