The dialectics of diasporic experience imply a culture shock which forces exiled populations to redefine the markers of their cultural identity. This process is further complicated when the religious and cultural heritage is diverse and multifaceted. The case of Arab-American women, however, shows that diasporization can produce both a reshaping of collective identity and a transformation of gender relations.
