Asylum seeking and the ethics of psychological care

Par : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2020. Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : In this article, the author explores the multifaceted tension between the actual waiting times in which asylum seekers in the legal process of obtaining refugee status are caught and the different categories of waiting that can unravel through psychotherapy. Using the notion of “believing expectation” put forward by Freud in his early writings (1890), the article examines the stance clinicians adopt in listening to asylum seekers by addressing the individual aspects of their experiences. These can be characterized by trauma, mourning, and loss, as well as difficulty in rebuilding bonds of trust with others.
